This spring, PowerMyLearning is offering a free four-part workshop series for educators in NYC Council District 49 (Staten Island). Each session is designed to provide practical, classroom-ready strategies you can apply immediately to strengthen student outcomes in your classroom.

Strong learning happens when students talk, listen, and engage with ideas. In this session, you’ll learn how to create structured, student-centered discussions that deepen understanding and build classroom community.

You will:

  • Understand the elements of effective learning conversations

  • Explore strategies to support student discourse

  • Plan one structure to use in an upcoming lesson

Feedback is most powerful when students can understand and use it. This session focuses on how to give clear, targeted feedback that helps students improve, without adding to your workload.

You will:

  • Identify what makes feedback actionable

  • Practice strategies like problem revision and interactive rubrics

  • Plan how to help students apply feedback in your classroom

When students understand where they’re going, they’re more motivated to get there. Learn how to set meaningful goals with students and involve families in ways that strengthen support and accelerate growth.

You will:

  • Learn the characteristics of effective goal setting

  • Explore tools for partnering with students and families

  • Plan how to integrate goal setting into your practice

Strong family partnerships can significantly impact student learning. This session focuses on building trust, improving communication, and engaging families as active partners in student success.

You will:

  • Reflect on your current family engagement practices

  • Learn strategies for two-way communication

  • Plan how to strengthen family partnerships around learning

Kendra Frank, Director of Programs

Kendra partners with schools across the country to help teachers bring strong instructional practices to life in their classrooms. She is known for translating research into clear, practical strategies that educators can use right away to build student confidence and engagement. Drawing on her experience as a former Special Education and English Language Development teacher, Kendra focuses on creating learning environments where all students can participate and thrive. She holds a master’s degree in Education and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Brenau University.

Brandon Schuler

Brandon Schuler, Program Implementation Manager

Brandon supports educators nationwide through coaching and professional learning that deepens student thinking and participation, with a strong focus on communication and discourse to help teachers understand how students make sense of content. His work helps educators implement strategies that lead to more meaningful classroom conversations and stronger learning outcomes. He holds a B.A. in Secondary English Education from Ball State University and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Purdue University.
